A Legacy Moving Forward
Sonotech Solutions Inc. carries forward a Syrian audio-business heritage that began in Damascus in 1976. The family’s audio-business heritage reaches its 50th year in 2026. The story spans Hawa Trading Est. and Hawa Audio Design, Inc. (HAD), with experience in Hi-Fi retail and distribution, public address, project design, system integration, and installation.
Today, Sonotech focuses on professional audio, public address, conference and communication systems, and related low-voltage technologies. It is TOA’s exclusive distributor in Syria and is developing a portfolio of international brands.
50 Years of Sound
Nearly five decades of bringing trusted audio expertise and world-class sound solutions to Syria.
The Beginning | 1976
1976 | Hawa Trading Est.
The late Nicolas Hawa founded Hawa Trading Est. in Damascus and secured the exclusive Syrian distributorship of Sansui, the renowned Japanese audio brand.
1980s | Retail and Brand Expansion
In 1980, the company opened Damascus’s first high-end audio showroom, introducing customers to a new Hi-Fi retail experience. During the mid-1980s, it expanded its portfolio to include international brands such as Nakamichi, Audio-Technica, and Jensen speakers.
Expanding Our Horizons
1991 | Leadership Transition
Following the founder’s passing in 1991, his son, Fauz Nicolas Hawa, took over the business and set out to expand beyond traditional Hi-Fi into a broader Audio & Vision portfolio.
1992 | New Technologies Co. – Hawa & Attar
Hawa Trading Est. and Attar Group formed a joint venture, New Technologies Co. – Hawa & Attar (NTC). NTC secured the exclusive Syrian distributorship of Aiwa.
1993–1994 | Kenwood and Additional Brands
In 1993, Hawa Trading Est. became the exclusive Syrian distributor of Japanese brand Kenwood. In 1994, Hawa Trading Est. was selected as the Syrian partner for several internationally recognized loudspeaker brands, including Bose, Infinity, Jamo, and Cerwin-Vega.
1996 | Hawa Audio Design and TOA
Hawa Audio Design, Inc. (HAD) was established as a sister company with a broader focus on professional audio. Its work extended beyond distribution to public address systems, project design, system integration, and installation. HAD began operations as TOA’s exclusive distributor in Syria.
Growth and Recognition
2002–2003 | Sony and Professional Audio
By 2002, NTC had been selected by Sony as its exclusive partner in Syria. Beginning in 2003, HAD expanded its professional audio and lighting portfolio, adding more international brands, including Martin, COEF, FAL, dbx, Spirit, TAM, Vestax, WHD, Phonic, Denon Professional, Wharfedale Pro, DAS, beyerdynamic, and Bose Professional.
2007 | Yamaha
Yamaha selected HAD as its exclusive Syrian distributor for its full range of professional audio equipment and musical instruments. Soon afterward, HAD opened dedicated Yamaha showrooms in Damascus and Aleppo.
2010 | Peak Operations
Around 2010, the business operated twelve showrooms and three service centers, with a workforce of approximately 130 people.
Disruption and Transition
2011–2024 | Disruption and Transition
The Syrian conflict, followed by international restrictions and sanctions, progressively disrupted commercial activity. Banking, importing, and international trade became increasingly difficult, ultimately bringing the group’s operations in Syria to a close. Following major political changes at the end of 2024 and the gradual reopening of commercial opportunities, the decision was made to relaunch the professional audio business under a fresh identity: Sonotech Solutions Inc.
Today | Sonotech Solutions
Sonotech Solutions continues the heritage of Hawa Trading Est. and Hawa Audio Design. It has renewed its longstanding relationship with TOA as the exclusive distributor in Syria and is expanding its portfolio with additional international brands. The company aims to become one of Syria’s leading professional audio distributors.
